executive council & deacon

online nominations

November 14 - 30, 2025

As a CityRise Church member, you have the opportunity to nominate persons you believe meet the qualifications to serve on the Executive Council or as a Deacon

I'd like to nominate someone for. . .

Executive Council

Qualifications for Executive Council
Executive Council Members at Large must have been Members of the Church for at least two (2) years and must be individuals who are worthy of respect and whose lives demonstrate evidence of spiritual maturity, sound judgment, and a commitment to Christ.

All nominations will be reviewed by the Executive Council. Any nominations that are selected for consideration will be voted on by the church during our annual church business.

Deacon

Definition of a Deacon
In the New Testament a deacon is one who serves. A deacon ministers to the needs of the body of Christ through the local church. Supporting the pastor and freeing him for other duties is also the deacon’s responsibility.

Deacon Selection Process
Our Church By-Laws provide for the membership to nominate members as candidates for deacon. The nomination will be open November 14-30, 2025. Each member will be entitled to a single form on which to nominate up to 12 candidates. CityRise deacons, who are actively serving, do not need to be nominated.

The Deacon Screening Committee is outlined in our church bylaws as consisting of the Senior Pastor and the Chairman of Deacons as well as anyone they jointly appoint. This committee reviews all nominations to form a final list of recommended Deacon candidates which are then interviewed by a combination of pastoral staff members, deacon officers and deacons as selected by the Deacon Screening Committee. Once interviews are completed, a final list is presented to the Deacon Body for confirmation and ordination, if needed.

Newly elected deacons will serve for four (4) years and then rotate off for at least one (1) year as part of the deacon rotation process.

Qualifications for Deacons
Following are the two primary passages of scripture that explicitly specify deacon qualifications:
(1) “So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, ‘It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.’" Acts 6:2-4 (NIV)

(2) “Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.” 1 Tim. 3: 8-12 (NIV)

The Deacon Screening Committee will consider each nomination to see that the candidate has demonstrated these qualities of character in their service at a CityRise Campus and has shown a commitment to their church through both time and finances (tithes and offerings).
